Network performance with Debian...Ah, almost forgot. Network performance with Debian images from pine64.pro can be easily improved by switching to interactive cpufreq governor. And throttling shouldn't really be an issue since we improved settings a lot back in March.tkaiserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01344619102805550992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3711269760993993197.post-21101934666645053012016-10-12T15:31:19.407+01:002016-10-12T15:31:19.407+01:00Using Armbian you would get all this stuff nicely ...Using Armbian you would get all this stuff nicely packaged already ;) But longsleep thought in a broader direction since he anticipatited already that all his stuff would be used by distros with varying package managers.

Armbian also provides OS images with mainline kernel but not quite useable today (Ethernet works, USB not for example). This would have reduced image creation to a simple debootstrap giving much greater confidence in the images provenance."

This looks like an excellent opportunity for you to contribute something. Don't be just a freeloader ;-)

"There appears to have been no progress whatsoever on the software offering from Pine64 in the six months since I received the device and no prospect of mainline Allwinner support for the SoC either."

Have a look at the SoC support matrix in the mainline kernel: https://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort#Status_Matrix

The work is being done while we speak. A64 is also reusing many IP blocks from the earlier Allwinner SoC, so it is not as much work as you think. And for your particular virtualization and headless build server use case it is not very far from being perfectly usable with the mainline kernel. Graphics and multimedia surely need more efforts and time.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17325769823932798969noreply@blogger.com
